Hans Christian Lumbye (2 May 1810 - 20 March 1874) was a Danish composer of waltzes, polkas, mazurkas and galops, among other things. From 1843 to 1872, he served as the music director and in-house composer for Tivoli Gardens, Copenhagen. Such was his popularity in the Danish capital that many Danes revered him and considered Johann Strauss II as the "Lumbye of the South".

    Indeed a masterpiece, beautiful polyphonic writing, voice leading, everything seems essential. I like especially the scherzo with the spooky atmosphere (d minor seems particularly difficult for intonation by string players I believe?). Thanks for uploading.

    I'm puzzled that this concerto is so obscure. I find it more thrilling than the other two, and I have no complaints about those. Pianistically, it sounds like it would be more difficult to play.

    It's worth pointing out that J Horton (Un. Coll. Dublin) demonstrates in "Music & Letters" 2011) it was J.Field (especially this piano concerto no.7) and not Mozart and Beethoven who influenced Schumann in his piano concerto.

    Wunderschöne Interpretation dieser perfekt komponierten und fein arrangierten Klaviersonate im veränderlichen Tempo mit klaren doch warmherzigen Klänge beider perfekt entsprechenden Klaviere. Der zweite Satz klingt besonders schön und echt lyrisch. Im Kontrast klingt der dritte Satz echt lebhaft und auch überzeugend. Wahrlich hörenswert!

    Hot take: Mozart peaked at his early twenties on his visit of Paris, and the death of his mother. After that, his pieces became a rush to earn money instead of the soulful carefully crafted and non-repetitive works of his early twenties. Not that his other works later on are any way bad, they are just worse than these

    This is great! Loved Grieg's arrangement for the Sonata Facile, and I love this too. It is so incredible how much of a texture change this sonata can get and yet is still unmistakable!

    The addition is expertly done, while leaving the original text intact. Much better listening than the grotesque remakes of Bach by Brahms, Busoni and others. A still better achievement would be to compose a second piano score that stands on itself. The 15th century polyphonists could do sth like that.

    The second piano is completely unnecessary and distracts from the piece itself more than it adds. Don’t know why Grieg felt the need to do this. Utterly pointless arrangement

      Grieg had the respect and good sense to leave the original text completely intact. The arrangement is expertly done.I like this much better than the grotesque adaptations of f.i. Bach by Brahms and Busoni. In your logic all baroque paintings and sculptures should be removed from Romanesque and Gothic cathedrals ,being additions to the original buildings.

      It is an excellent arrangement. I played these Sonatas with a friend back when I was in College. It was great fun, especially when our teacher walked in and was amazed about the arrangements as he didn't know them! That was Gerard van Blerk.
